November 29, 2023
BACARDĺ, PATRÓN and GREY GOOSE Recognized for Commitment to People and Communities
Hamilton, Bermuda, November 29, 2023 – Bacardi Limited, the world’s largest privately held international spirits company, is proud to announce that three of the portfolio’s brands – BACARDĺ rum, PATRÓN tequila and GREY GOOSE vodka – have been recognized by Forbes as America’s Best Brands for Social Impact. The results are based on an independent survey of more than 100,000 consumers who ranked more than 2,000 unique brands across four categories: Overall Brand Values and Trust, Social Stances, Sustainability and Community Support.
Family-owned Bacardi has been doing good since the company’s inception 161 years ago in Santiago de Cuba. From establishing schools and libraries to building orphanages and hospitals and to even opening the first museum in Cuba, the company has set a precedent of giving back. Today, making a positive social impact is part of the Good Spirited Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda.
We are immensely proud to be recognized by Forbes for our legacy and unwavering commitment to social impact. At Bacardi, our people and our brands are our driving force, and this recognition reflects a heartfelt commitment to making a positive difference in our communities and on the environment.”
Mahesh Madhavan, CEO of Bacardi Limited
All Bacardi brands have a strong commitment to sustainability to maximize a positive environmental footprint. From reducing GHG emissions by half at the BACARDĺ Rum distillery in Puerto Rico – the world’s largest premium rum distillery, to using a state-of-the-art water treatment system to reclaim clean water from our tequila production at the PATRÓN Hacienda in Mexico, to minimizing the entire footprint – from crop to cork – when making GREY GOOSE vodka.
Among the many brand programs making an impact on communities are BACARDĺ rum’s ongoing Music Liberates Music program, which champions underrepresented voices in the music industry, PATRÓN tequila’s commitment to responsible employment, which includes offering an after-hours education program and partnering with local universities to reduce costs for colleagues interested in furthering their studies, and GREY GOOSE vodka supporting farming cooperatives, allowing smaller farmers to band together to protect one another and their crops.
In addition to brand-led programs, the Bacardi company promotes giving back to its communities. From ‘Shake Your Future,’ a free training program available across six countries that gives young, unemployed adults the life-changing opportunity to train as a professional mixologist, to providing employees paid time off to volunteer and actively engage with local communities, Bacardi is dedicated to making a positive difference. In addition to supporting local charities and organizations on an ongoing basis, Bacardi has also provided essential aid during times of crisis. At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bacardi donated $3 million to worldwide organizations supporting hospitality workers, helping the industry stay afloat and working hand-in-hand with communities to foster emergency relief and long-term economic recovery.
